Results from the Mountain King tournament at the Dice Dojo

Despite a ribs festival, the Taste of Chicago, and a neighborhood block party, Warmachine players converged at the Dice Dojo for the chance to win a pre-released Gargantuan, the Mountain King.

The players came from parts of the Midwest.

Despite a few troubles with chess clocks, the event began only a little late and ended with a little time to spare. We had 21 total players and played the following scenarios:

• Close Quarters
• Supply and Demand
• Diversion
• Incursion

Control points were at stake because we were only going to play four rounds instead of the five needed to have a single overall victor. With four rounds we would end up with, perhaps, two undefeated players.

The Dice Dojo provided top 7 prizes, but I made an accounting error and awarded a prize to player 8. Let's go see him now.



I think Joshua Rosenthal (Magnus and Magnus) knows I messed up and gave him the 7th place prize. He went 2-2, and was the top player with his tournament score with 5 control points. Owen Rehrauer (Barnabas and Maelok) was the next nearest 2-2 player with 4 control points.




Liz Klein (Kreuger the Stormlord and Mohsar the Desertwalker) went undefeated until the final round where she lost to James Preusser. Unfortunately, she won her games on assassination and so fell in standings at the end when compared to players with control points. Still, she strung three wins in a row, three more than I'm capable of doing.

You can see her husband, Evan, in the background acting as the bad angel to Lex Dunning.



David Phelps (Supreme Archdomina Makeda and Supreme Aptimus Zaal) was sixth. This fourteen year old pulled off Archidon assassinations and fielded an Immortal Host theme force. Watch for this kid.



Chad Kaufman (Baldur the Stonecleaver and Morvahna the Autumnblade, aka, Baldur all day)came in fifth with 2 control points. David Phelps also had 2 control points, but Chad had 6 more points destroyed, which ended up giving Chad the higher ranking.



I messed up at this point and mistakenly gave Craig (Amon Ad-Raza and Grand Exemplar Kreoss) the 3rd place coin, but he still came in at a respectable 4th in a field of 21. He also scored only 2 control points, but came in with 11 more points destroyed than Chad.



Our real 3rd place winner was Lucas Wilson (Doomshaper, Rage of Dhunia and Borka Kegslayer). He was undefeated until the final round where Prom King Vlad ended his streak (with a little help from Nate White). He also played like a champ by fielding a playable 50 point army even though he brought 35 point lists and left his War Wagon at home.



James Preusser (Warwitch Deneghra and Epic Skarre) lost his first game but managed to place second by securing control points in all his games (including the one he lost!) and end the tournament with 9 control points. In the final round he defeated Liz Klein who had been undefeated up to that point.



Nate White played Prom King Vlad's theme force all day and ended first place. He ended the winning streaks of Craig, Tony and Lucas while securing a total of 6 control points throughout the event with his fast moving cavalry force and a blood soaked Vlad buffing his STR and ARM up with the bodies of the dead.

I have nothing to say about the picture, though.

In addition to the top 7 prizes, players who played all four of their games were eligible to win a Mountain King.




Steve Leckman of Illinois won the door prize and brought home the Mountain King! He was one of the two players to bring a colossal to the event (Davis being the other), and so now his Stormwall has a bestial cousin he can play with without breaking right away. I'm curious to see whether Steve will start a Troll force or maybe swap the Mountain King for something like, oh, I don't know, a second Stormwall?

Madness.
