Battle: Hoarluk Doomshaper, Shaman of the Gnarls vs. Lylyth, Herald of Everblight, 50 points

Back in April, more of the local players were helping me practice my 50 point lists. Marlon Marcial re-worked his Lylyth to make it more capable of dealing with high ARM models.

The Forsaken (2pts)

He swapped out his anti-infantry elements to put in a Scythean and leans on the second Seraph to make the force faster and handle infantry.

I, on the other hand, was getting more practice with my Runes of War Theme Force:

This game, unlike our previous one, Lylyth started using the Seraph animus Slipstream to get her more dangerous warbeasts (the Scythean and Typhon) closer to the action.

Doomshaper's advantages here are the presence of the free rock walls granted by his Runes of War Theme Force, the walls placed on the table (probably by Lex, one of the storeowners), free fury on the stone and a plethora of ARM 17 5-wound models that aren't knocked down when they make a Tough roll.

This is a 'beast brick. Mulg, Earthborn and Mauler all huddle around doomshaper while Janissa throws up Rock Walls to beef up the Warbeasts that have the Earthborn's animus on them. ARM 22 Earthborns, ARM 23 Mulg, hello!

Poisoned weapons on the warbeast and infantry killing Deathstriders going after the Stone Scribes. Smart!

Outside of slipstream, the Seraph also has access to ranged attacks. Here it's shooting at tough Runeshapers.

In a game of heavies, the question is who will break ranks first. Here, Doomshaper casts Rush on Mulg and sends the 'beast after the Seraph. Mulg only needs four Fury to eat the Seraph alive.

DSC04589

This may not have been the best of moves, as Mulg is now staring down a Parasite spell from Lylyth's arrows (-3ARM) followed by three heavies wrecking face.

The rest of the army tries to position around the fact that Mulg is going to die.

DSC04591

Of course, instead of just Mulg Doomshaper loses BOTH Mulg and the Mauler. Parasite makes Mulg breakable against Typhon, and the Scythean simply eats the Mauler alive.

DSC04592

Everything starts getting eaten.I think Doomshaper's feat (always ill-timed) is the only thing keeping me alive as Lylyth does not want to take d6 damage for every Fury she spends or forces (damages the 'beast).

The Earthborn keeps getting trapped by models and its own failure to commit to any one plan. Doomshaper constantly sits on fury to try to stave off death by arrows.

DSC04595

Here Doomshaper casts Rampager to control and move (illegally) Typhon. Someone later on would point out the words "non-character."

The Earthborn manages to chew through the Scythean.

But there aren't enough angles to keep Doomshaper safe from Lylyth's arrows.
