Hafr Stonebridge, Background

Background

Hafr Stonebridge has always been a Troll of the city. He grew up believing that the cities were the only civilized place to live, and as he grew up Hafr leveraged his natural strength and street smarts to become a highly coveted bodyguard and pugilist.

His reputation at both fisticuffs and protection began to make actual fighting less inevitable, and as he was hired by more prominent clients his personal style trended away from the leather skins and animal fur hats his kin preferred and toward the long sleeve shirts and waistcoats of society.

Thus dressed, Hafr might begin any encounter with no more than a threat or a taunt, and let the offending party go so far as to take the first punch. Should any stain hit his pristine outfits, Hafr would roll up his sleeves and earn his pay.

Hafr's life began to change once the lands promised to his people were taken as a political expediency and given to the Llaelese exiles. He took to reading up on both the Runic histories of his blood as well as the written histories of man, and has used his appreciable bodyguarding fees to always keep some reading material on hand in a satchel.

As he began to explore the histories and traditions of his people, Hafr found that learning the runes stirred something in his blood, and it was in an underground match against "wild" troll warbeasts that he realized he indeed had a link to his ancestors.

Freeing the captive troll beasts, Hafr guided them in ending the fights and this poaching operation in particular. In doing so, he also freed some portion of himself.

At one point during the battle, he picked up some local Ogrun's custom hand cannon and found it much to his liking. .

Now Hafr fights to help unite both his city and country cousins the way he has united those parts in himself. He goes to battle, firing off shots with "Vera" until an opportunity arises for him to go in with his fists. Even without weapons, his fist fighting technique specializes in creating and exploiting weaknesses, taking hits for both himself and his army as he looks for those openings.

Design Notes

I'm not sure what I'm looking for him to do really. I had this idea for a character, hired my friend Aaron Schmidt to sculpt the model based on the character background, and thought I could figure out model rules later.

He's a warlock with something of a shotgun and a penchant for punching. I haven't decided what that means for himself and what that means for his army.

It could mean he has melee damage buffs, or the ability to debuff enemy armor with melee attacks.

Another thought is that he has an ability or feat that is kind of like Harbinger where he absorbs damage for his army or battlegroup.

I'll be looking at rules across the game in future blog posts about Hafr. Plus I'll be spending time painting him. This is going to be fun! Or, as someone in general forums said, cringey.
